Heat Recovery Ventilation

Step Into a Warmer, Healthier Home.

Fresh Air for a Healthier Home

Modern homes are built to keep heat inside, but without proper ventilation this can lead to stale air, condensation, dampness, and poor indoor air quality.

AquaFlame Heat Recovery Ventilation (HRV) systems help keep fresh air moving through your home while reducing heat loss. The system removes stale indoor air and replaces it with fresh filtered air from outside, helping create a healthier and more comfortable living environment.

Our ventilation systems are designed to improve airflow, control moisture, and support better indoor comfort for New Zealand homes.

Why Heat Recovery Ventilation Matters

Many modern homes are tightly sealed to improve energy efficiency. While this helps keep homes warmer, it can also trap moisture, cooking smells, humidity, and airborne particles indoors.

A heat recovery ventilation system helps solve these issues by keeping fresh filtered air circulating throughout the home.

How Heat Recovery Ventilation Works

The system continuously removes stale air from areas like:

Kitchens

Water is a superior heat conductor compared to air. When paired with a modern air-to-water heat pump, these systems can significantly reduce your monthly energy bills.

Bathrooms

Traditional forced-air systems circulate dust, pet dander, and allergens. Hydronic heating is radiant; it moves no air, making it the “Gold Standard” for families with asthma or respiratory sensitivities.

Laundries

Say goodbye to wall-mounted units. Because the system is entirely hidden under your flooring, you have 100% of your wall space available for furniture and art.

Living spaces

Why heat the whole house when you’re only using one room? Our systems allow for “Smart Zoning,” giving you precise temperature control for every room in your home.

At the same time, fresh filtered air is brought into the home. Before the stale air leaves the house, its heat is transferred to the incoming fresh air through a heat exchanger.

This helps maintain indoor warmth while still providing proper ventilation.

Solutions for Every Build

In-Slab (New Builds)

The most popular choice for new homes. The pipes are tied to the reinforcing mesh before the concrete is poured. The concrete slab acts as a “thermal mass,” holding and radiating heat long after the system is turned off.

Screed Systems (Renovations)

Ideal for existing homes or floor-leveling projects. Pipes are laid on top of the existing floor and covered with a thin layer of specialized screed, allowing for a faster response time and minimal height increase.

Timber Floor Solutions

We use specialized aluminum spreader plates to ensure even heat distribution for joisted timber floors, bringing the luxury of underfloor warmth to traditional NZ villas and builds.

Do you have questions?

Yes. It works best with tile and polished concrete, but we also design systems for engineered timber, laminate, and carpet.
In-slab systems take a few hours to warm up but hold heat all day. Screed systems respond much faster, usually within 30–60 minutes.
No. Using water is more efficient than air. When paired with an Air-to-Water Heat Pump, it is one of the cheapest ways to heat a home in New Zealand.
Very little. A quick annual check of the manifold and heat pump pressure is all that’s needed to keep it running perfectly.
Yes. Smart Zoning allows you to set different temperatures for your living areas and bedrooms to save energy.
We use continuous PEX-a piping with no joints under the floor. It is designed to last 50+ years and is extremely secure.
